BCLA Academic Excellence

Excel as a Liberal Arts Scholar

At LMU, students have opportunities across their four years on the Bluff to excel as scholars. Liberal Arts students have the unique advantage of options; with 21 majors and 27 minors to choose from, every student has a chance to craft an academic plan that matches her passions and abilities.

4 Units to Excellence

Starting in Fall 2015, Bellarmine adopted a 4-unit curriculum - offering four units of credit for each course instead of three. More than just a number, the extra credit per course means more class time, more writing and research, and more opportunity for creative exploration in each class. How do students handle the extra work? Most students take four courses per semester, instead of five. 4-unit courses are common at the country's best small liberal arts colleges; Bellarmine is proud to be among them.

Honors Societies

Many of our academic departments offer academic honors societies that recognize the achievements of their high-achieving majors. Each department's honors society has different entry requirements, so consult your department's website or your faculty advisor to find out how to qualify. In 2014, 145 Bellarmine students graduated with departmental honors distinction.

University Honors

LMU also offers university-wide honors program for academically excellent students. Learn more.
