Riverbanks (2014)
Directed by Panos Karkanevatos
Duration: 96 mins
At the border of Greece and Turkey, a young soldier, Yannis, works as a sapper. Yannis dances with death each day as he works to clear the minefields, with an intuition of where death lies superior even to the detectors. At night, gangs transfer immigrants beyond the river and through the minefield, sometimes breaking the silence with an unfortunate step. A young woman, Chryssa, helps children cross through the river, and when she meets Yannis one night, their fates are intertwined. Together, the two share their common experiences surrounding death, and through this begin to understand what love means to them.
