Business German Certificate
The new Business German Certificate consists of 12 semester hours above the GRMN 2102 level. Students will have some flexibility in their entry for the Certificate, depending on their initial placement test result. The Certificate should typically take 3-5 semesters to complete. See table below for examples of different paths that students can take to complete the certificate based on their initial placement (UD= Upper Division).

GRMN 3716 will be the only required course for the certificate. The two (2) other GRMN courses required will vary depending on the student placement score in the German Placement Test.

Students should:
- develop at least high intermediate skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing (SLO1).
- gain a comprehensive understanding of German business culture (SLO2).
Students should be able to:
- use language of everyday business dealings in German-speaking countries (SLO3).
- carry out work-related speech acts in a linguistically and interculturally appropriate way at a German company (SLO4).
Students should value:
- multilingualism and multiculturalism (SLO5).
- the ethics, practices, and perspectives in contemporary German business culture (SLO6).

All students with German knowledge will be required to take the German Placement Test to determine their entry point to the certificate (GRMN 2101, 2102, 2103, UD). Students with no German proficiency will begin the program in GRMN 2101.
