COUP! Political Upheaval and Russia's Presence in West Africa
In the past several years, several West African nations and Gabon have experienced political instability, including the collapse of governments. At the same time, many countries in the region have turned away from the United Nations as a potential source of stability and toward Russia and Russian companies, including the Wagner Group. How can these recent developments be understood in terms of the history of Soviet, Russian, and African relations? This panel discussion will address recent political developments in light of the longer-term history of global politics.
About the Bellarmine ForumThe Bellarmine Forum is LMU's annual celebration of the life of the mind, offered by the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts. The 2023-24 Bellarmine Forum invites students, faculty, and the entire LMU community to think about how we understand “internationalization” and how to break it down into what that actually means to us.
