Research Grants and Support

The Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts administers five internal grants: the Collaborative Interdisciplinary Development Grant, the DEIA Curricular Planning Grant, Development & Assessment Grant for Departments, the Engaged Learning Grant, and two Research-funding Grants. Grants are given in support of original research, creative work, and curricular enhancement. Please read the instruction for eligibility and application instructions.

    The Dean’s Office is delighted to announce that BCLA can again offer five (5) course remissions in Spring 2025 to support faculty research. Five (5) awardees will each receive one (1) course remission. 

    The deadline will be 5:00 p.m. PT (US) on October 31, 2023. Awardees will be notified by Friday, December 15, 2023.

    As an award that sits with the Faculty Development Committee, professional development for Assistant and Associate Professors is a key priority of this award.

    Background and Purpose of Award
    Created from a legacy received from Harry M. Daum, Class of 1938, the Daum Professorship is given annually to a tenured full professor in the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts who has a distinguished and sustained record of excellence in teaching and advising, scholarship or creative work, service and leadership to the department, college and university. Nominees must demonstrate consistent excellence in all areas of faculty responsibility commensurate with rank.

    The Award:
    The Daum Professorship carries two course remissions to be used in the forthcoming academic year in order to support the recipient in their professional development. Additionally, a research account of $10,000 is awarded for use during one fiscal year, June 1 through May 15. Funding may be used for research-related expenses such as travel and lodging related to attending and presenting at conferences and symposia, participating in a workshop related to the research project, and/or visiting or hosting research collaborators; working at/with research sites, archives, and collections; hardware/software, books, and other research-related materials; data collection/analysis, transcription services; publication subvention costs; or other expenses related to research. The P-Card is to be used to track the funding, or faculty may choose to take this as a $10,000 research stipend (added to paycheck as supplemental pay and subject to all tax laws and policies). Faculty must consult with the Dean’s office to determine options for dispersal.

    The Award:
