As part of the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts, the Department of Sociology emphasizes the development of skills applicable to a wide range of careers. In-class writing assignments as well as term papers provide an opportunity to learn how to organize evidence to support a thesis. In our courses students will often be expected to make class presentations and participate in small group discussions. We encourage our students to become actively engaged in the learning process so as to understand the relationship of the subject matter to their everyday lives. The skills they hone through these activities ultimately will pay dividends after completing their degrees and moving on to careers beyond LMU.
