Sociology, as a social science, provides a strong academic background that prepares students to conduct and critically examine empirical research. In that respect the study of sociology, with its emphasis on organizational, writing, and speaking skills also prepares a major for a wide range of careers. Our program in sociology aims to foster the abilities to evaluate public issues that demand their attention as active citizens.
The Sociology Society hosts regular events throughout the academic year dedicated to helping students think about occupational choices after completing their studies at LMU. “Career Night” brings several recent graduates to campus to discuss their experiences after graduation. They often reflect on the value of their coursework in sociology for their careers.
Recent graduates have enrolled in top graduate programs in sociology, social work, law, writing, psychology, communications, public policy and management, public health, and medicine.
Alumni hold positions in academia, law, family services, mental health services, the non-profit sector, and the entertainment industry.
