SOCL 3230 Applied Community Internship

The Applied Community Internship course taught by Clinical Assistant Professor, Dr. Nathan Sessoms, matches students as interns with community-based organizations in South Los Angeles. In the course, students learn about historical and contemporary South LA, while building upon their existing knowledge of social inequalities, urban community dynamics, and the various anti-racist strategies that partnering organizations employ to create more equitable conditions. Students intern with the organizations for 6-8 hours per week for several weeks during the semester. Additionally, students participate in a community tour of South LA and discuss many of the common challenges and opportunities associated with providing critical services and resources to community members and community institutions.
