About:
My name is Andrea Ramirez and I am a first-generation Latina student majoring in Psychology with a minor in Health and Society. My career interests consist of using psychology to benefit marginalized communities through empowerment and access to new opportunities.
As an Ellen Barreto Research Fellow I was able to conduct a qualitative research project examining the experiences of different socioeconomic statuses at a predominantly white institution like LMU. Specifically how financial stress as a social determinant of health. My findings explore it’s impact on mental well-being, academic engagement, and sense of belonging highlighting inequalities in student’s college experiences. This fellowship gave me the opportunity to engage in the research process like never before helping me gain skills and insights that will benefit my future academic endeavors.
