A campus-wide series of events providing tools for starting and sustaining inclusive conversations

ASLMU, BCLA, Ethnic and Intercultural Services, Office of Mission and Ministry, and Student Affairs present the 2018-19 lineup:

  • Finding Common Ground in a Polarized World: Possibilities and Perils

    Jan. 25, 2019 | 12 p.m.
    Sacred Heart Chapel

Join us for a lecture with Julie Hanlon Rubio, Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University, exploring how we might engage in dialogues of mutual respect and understanding in a world marked by conflict, isolation, and distrust. Is finding common ground possible? Is it worthwhile? And how does LMU's mission and identity shape how we approach these questions.

Julie Hanlon Rubio is among the most visible public theologians in the U.S. Catholic Church today. Her articles have appeared in venues such as America, the National Catholic Reporter, catholicmoraltheology.com, and the Washington Post, reaching diverse audiences. Dr. Rubio's 2016 book, Hope for Common Ground: Mediating the Personal and the Political in a Divided Church (Georgetown University Press), suggests that there is a way beyond red versus blue for Catholics.

    Lunch Reception to follow.
