Beyond the Classroom

Gospel Choir

LMU's beloved Gospel Choir is housed in the African American Studies Department. Open to all students, faculty, and staff at the university, the choir performs biannual concerts from a range of gospel traditions. The choir is directed by Professor William R. Washington. Students can receive 1 hour of course credit for participating in the choir by enrolling in the "Gospel Choir" course offered each semester by the African American Studies Department.

Student Research

African American Studies majors are encouraged to participate in faculty-guided research projects to develop and explore research interests and build research and critical skills. See BCLA's Student Research page for a list of ways to seek out research opportunities, or ask your professor.
