Internships
Internships allow students to gain practical experience, apply classroom theory, and clarify career goals. Internships may or may not yield academic credit, and may be paid or unpaid. In any case, internships provide valuable insight and experience, and are highly recommended. Students can locate internships through
Career Development Services or by registering for one of the internship courses offered.

Research
Undergraduate research is supported in a number of ways. Students can arrange an Independent Study course under the direction of a full time professor, allowing for the completion of a research project beyond the scope of a regular course. Also, up to four
Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) are awarded each spring to fund independent student research over the summer, working closely with a faculty mentor. Additionally, students may be selected by full time professor to work together on a research project as a Rains Research Assistant.
Travel
Students are encouraged to develop a global perspective through study and research in a foreign country or our nation’s capital. Students can enroll in a program for the summer, a semester, or a full academic year. Independent travel and research abroad is supported through the Eugene Escallier Foreign Study Award.
Service and Justice
The
Center for Service and Action coordinates service opportunities, community based learning, alternative breaks, and student groups related to social justice issues. Additionally, the
William Fitzgerald Summer Grants provide support for undergraduates in the academic programs of the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts to take part in a volunteer/Internship program during the summer months.
