“This is so hilarious,” Rachel Lang, M.A. ’15 says as we wrap up our interview. “It’s one of those things that I’ve kept so quiet throughout my entire time at LMU.”

Lang earned her Master of Arts degree in Theological Studies from Loyola Marymount University. She is now working as an Astrological Consultant and Healer.

“I have been kind of closeted about this because astrology is not really seen as a theological, spiritual, or even Christian pursuit, but at the same time I love it because it helps us understand God and one another using tools and symbols from our everyday environment,” Lang says.

Lang consults with individuals, corporations, and non-profits and incorporates her background in business with her knowledge of astrology to strategize how to help them achieve their goals. She also runs an internet radio show and video podcast called Blissen Up, which focuses on themes of astrology and spirituality. After about a year, Lang has gained thousands of listeners and seeks to rebrand the show to incorporate global issues.

“It’s going to focus more on how we can reach for symbolism to understand the spiritual significance of the concerns in our lives and the global issues that we’re experiencing in our world,” she says.

Lang chose to pursue her M.A. in Theological Studies because of her interest in spirituality and astrology. She is fascinated by our relationship with God and examining how intimately we’re all connected. Her deep faith and commitment to service led her to LMU.

“I’ve always really wanted to make a difference in the world and I think LMU really shaped my values,” she says. “I grew so much through not only the education I received, but also through the entire experience of being in a Jesuit institution.”

Lang also credits LMU for inspiring the topic of her book. She is currently writing a book that will help people strategize how to make a difference in the world and respond to global concerns and community issues through prayer, community gathering and intention setting. She hopes to finish writing by this summer.

Lang also keeps herself busy speaking at international workshops, leading meditation groups, writing magazine horoscopes, and working with non-profit organizations such as Act Like a Grrrl. She plans to eventually work toward earning her Ph.D.

“Teaching and writing are the things I really want to do,” she says. “I have that sort of giving-back mentality and that’s something that’s really important to me in terms of my future.”
