The Sociology Society is a student run organization, open to all sociology majors, that promotes out of class activities. Recently the Society has organized a movie night in which a film of its choice, such as “Super Size Me”, is shown and then followed by a discussion of its implications for contemporary social issues. If there is shared interest, the Sociology Society may collaborate with other student organizations to promote a topical event. At the Society’s encouragement, each semester a faculty member will present his/her research during Convocation Hour (an open time period at noon on Tuesday and Thursday), with pizza served on the side. A few weeks before graduation, students gather at a faculty home in the neighborhood for food, cake and celebration of the graduating seniors. There are lots opportunities to interact with other students and faculty.
