Sociology Majors must complete 12 hours of lower division (100 or 200 numbered courses) requirements--SOCL 100, 105, 109 and 210--with at least a C (2.0) grade.
Sociology Majors also must complete a minimum of 27 semester hours of upper division courses (300 or 400 numbered courses). Nine of these 27 units include the required courses SOCL 301, SOCL 401, and SOCL 495. SOCL 495 must be taken during the senior year (90 credit hours or more). An average grade of C (2.0) or better must be maintained for all courses included in the major.
The remainder of the 18 upper division credit hours is to be chosen from at least four of the six theme areas.

- Theme Area II--Social Inequality
- Theme Area III--Urban, Population and Demographic Processes
- Theme Area IV--Social Structure, Culture and Process
- Theme Area V--Family and Life Cycle
- Theme Area VI--Globalization
NOTE: At least two 300~ or 400~-level sociology courses must be taken in the senior year.
A minor in sociology requires 18 units, including; (a) SOCL 100 or SOCL 105; (b) SOCL 109; (c) SOCL 301 or SOCL 401; and, 9 semester hours in upper division courses. An average grade of C (2.0) must be obtained in courses included in the minor. At least one 300-level or 400-level sociology course must be taken in the senior year.
