The Fund for the Public Interest

The Fund for the Public Interest’s Los Angeles office - We are a national non-profit that runs grassroots campaigns for the nation’s top progressive organizations including Environment California, CALPIRG, Fair Share, and the Human Rights Campaign.

Currently, we’re working with CALPIRG on a campaign to end wasteful agricultural subsidies. Each year Congress gives $1 billion in taxpayer handouts to big agribusinesses to subsidize junk food ingredients such as high fructose corn syrup. In California, this issue is particularly relevant. California is the biggest agricultural producer in the country; yet, 91% of California farms- the farms that grow fruits, vegetables, and nuts- don’t see a dime of federal subsidies. We’ve organized hundreds of small farmers and spoken to over a million Americans about our campaign, but in order to build enough public support to end these wasteful subsidies we need to grow our campaign staff.

We're currently hiring undergraduate students for part time jobs on our campaigns.

In the coming weeks, we’ll be holding information sessions and interviews in our local office. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable organizing and advocacy experience. There is a blurb below with all the information.

Throughout the year we’ll be working on several progressive campaigns, including a campaign to ban fracking in CA. I look forward to keeping in touch with you and making these opportunities available to your students.

This last year our staff helped to protect the Pacific by banning single use plastic grocery bags in over 50 cities across the state of California. We’ve also helped repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, and increased food safety standards to make school lunches safer.

Currently, we have paid positions open for campaign staff out of our LA office in Korea town. We are looking for candidates who work hard, communicate well, and are dedicated to working towards positive environmental and social change.

As a member of our staff, you will fundraise, build membership for our partner groups, and educate and activate citizens on pressing issues. You will also have the opportunity to organize press conferences and build coalitions with other non-profit organizations. While on staff you will learn how to effectively generate public support, build upon your understanding of the political process, and create positive social change.

You can get involved by applying online at http://fundforthepublicinterest.org/apply-now or by calling our office at 213-251-8630.
