GreenMotion is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our commitment is to the research, development, promotion, and use of efficient and renewable energy solutions. We will identify at least 1,000 new ideas, technologies, processes, and techniques which will help meet the energy needs of the worldwide community in a renewable, sustainable way. We will become directly involved through education, research, training, idea exchanges, public debates, technology competitions, and advocacy. We will emphasize sustainable economic development through two approaches – in the developed world through education and fostering change toward renewable resources; in emerging economies through education and sustainable economic development using renewable energy technologies and grassroots empowerment opportunities as development tools.

Graphic and/or Web Designer

Description:

GreenMotion is looking for an experienced Graphic and/or Web Designer Volunteer who would be willing to volunteer his/her time to help staff in the design of promotional or educational materials for general use and for specific initiatives.

Skills Needed/ Experience:

  • Experience with graphic design tools such as PowerPoint, Photoshop required, Quark Xpress, Illustrator and/or InDesign essential, Flash preferred, and FrontPage (or equivalent HTML editor).
  • Experience with digital photography and web publishing.
  • Firm understanding of both Mac and PC platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of prepress, printing.
  • Understanding of production terms, typography, preparation and color proofs, press checks, color, bindery, and all printing methods.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Experience working for a non-profit organization is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with Executive Board Committee to conceive, plan, execute, and refine scheduled and ad hoc marketing communications programs including packaging, direct and electronic mail campaigns, logos, signage, print advertising, sales literature, presentations, and web design.
  • Edit/add content to existing websites.
  • Receive design assignments and review/coordinate with staff for understanding.
  • Be capable of producing and delivering designs properly marked and in the media form requested by staff.
  • Communicate promptly and effectively with GreenMotion staff and other volunteers.
  • Familiarity with GreenMotion’s mission, vision and philosophy is preferred.

Time Details:

  • Start date immediate; 5-15 hours per week.
  • The hours are flexible hours and you have the ability to work from home.

Special Requirements:

  • Graphic design and must be able to provide a resume and samples of his/her work.
  • Must own or have access to design equipment/software.

Newsletter Designer/Editor

Description:

Volunteer needed to work in partnership to produce a quarterly newsletter, Green InSight. The newsletter is one of the main methods of communication for GreenMotion towards the environmental community. We are looking for an organized, independent individual(s) willing to take on the responsibility. The hours are flexible hours and you have the ability to work from home.

Skills Needed/ Experience:

  • Interest in the subject matter of the newsletter.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient writing and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to organize, delegate and take initiative.
  • Familiarity with GreenMotion’s mission, vision and philosophy.
  • Ready access to and high comfort level with Microsoft Word (or other software considered by you) and email communication, and familiarity with file and photo manipulation.

Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to commit the time and resources to coordinate and produce a quarterly newsletter.
  • Solicit and coordinate articles, columns, and photos for the newsletter from contributors.
  • Set approximate timelines and schedules for newsletter submissions.
  • Review all submissions for content and correct spelling, punctuation, clarity, and glaring grammatical errors.
  • Confirm and missing or questionable details/names, etc with writers or other references.
  • Solicit advertisements from vendors; communicate with advertisers (and potential advertisers) to answer questions, provide information (such as ad rate sheets).
  • Must be flexible enough to deal with changing requirements and deadlines.

Grant Writer

Description:

We are a currently in need of experienced grant writers who will assist us in searching and applying for regional, national and international funding in order to help this organization to obtain stable funding sources to support our outreach programs.

We are looking for individuals with the ability to lead, manage teams, work independently, communicate effectively on the phone, in person and in writing and interact in a fast-paced business environment. We are looking for idealists and leaders who can put their thoughts and insights into action; positive, enthusiastic individuals who want to make a difference in the world.

Skills Needed/ Experience:

  • Solid research and grant writing experience.
  • Excellent writing skills a must.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Accurate typing skills.
  • Willing to collaborate in a team environment and work independently.
  • Familiarity with GreenMotion’s mission, vision and philosophy.
  • Knowledge about social, economic and political issues related to renewable energy preferred though not required.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in researching grant possibilities from a wide variety of governmental, private, and public foundations and institutions.
  • Assisting in research for specific grant opportunities.
  • Assisting in writing grants.

Marketing/Public Relations

Description:

Intrigued by the idea of making connections with members of the media to help promote a worthy cause? Would you enjoy drafting press releases and faxing/emailing/phoning to follow-up? Help GreenMotion develop and maintain an amazing media contact list sure to get us the attention we need to help spread the word about our programs, events, and other noteworthy activities.

Skills Needed/ Experience:

  • Volunteer must have some knowledge and experience in marketing and public relations especially in the non-profit arena.
  • College senior or graduate with coursework in marketing, communications and/or public relations preferred, high school diploma or equivalent required. Excellent writing skills.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills both written and oral.
  • Flexible and cooperative, with the ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Good organization skills.
  • Ability to take direction, responsible, with great follow-through on commitments.
  • Familiarity with GreenMotion’s mission, vision and philosophy.

Responsibilities:

  • Learn about and assist with writing news releases, announcements and other media-related assignments.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with national, regional and local press and media representatives.
  • Create and maintain media mailing lists; telephone follow-up with media releases.
  • Assist with coordinating media events or activities.
  • With direction, research and write copy for the GreenMotion web site.
  • Assist with coordinating publicity for various GreenMotion programs.
  • The volunteer will help raise awareness about global warming, renewable energy and our dependence on fossil fuels.

Time Details:

  • 20-hours-per-month preferred, 10 hours per-month minimum.
  • The time and day of volunteer work is flexible being that volunteer can work from home or their business office.
