Los Angeles Times Internship Programs

Interested in working with some of the best journalists around? We offer 10 weeks of intensive, hands-on experience in a region where big stories are the norm. We place interns throughout the L.A. Times: Metro, Sports, Business, Features, Washington bureau, Photography, Design, Graphics and latimes.com. These are paid internships and summer placements usually run from mid-June to late August.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be actively working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree and must be eligible to work in the U.S. Graduates may qualify if you've finished school within six months of the start of the internship. Applicants must have a valid driver's license and access to a car in good working condition. Little training is offered, so previous internship experience is preferred.

2012 Partner: Kaiser Media Internship in Health Reporting

WHAT IT IS: The Kaiser Media Internships Program is an intensive 12-week summer internship for young journalists interested in specializing in health reporting, with a particular commitment to coverage of health issues affecting diverse and immigrant communities. The Media Internships Program provides an initial week-long briefing on health issues and health reporting in Washington, D.C. Interns are then based for 10 weeks at their newspaper, online, or radio/TV station, typically under the direction of the Health or Metro Editor/News Director, where they report on health issues. (One intern will be placed at the Los Angeles Times.) The program ends with a three-day meeting in Boston to hear critiques from senior journalists.

TO APPLY: Details can be found at the Kaiser Family Foundation's Media Internship page.

Other: Los Angeles Times Metpro Training Program

WHAT IT IS: Metpro is a unique diversity program designed to help beginning journalists launch careers in Tribune newsrooms. We're seeking high-potential, highly motivated aspiring journalists with diverse backgrounds or life experiences. The program's main thrust is to provide participants -- recent college graduates or journalists with limited professional experience -- the training and support necessary to put them on a fast track to success. Metpro is not an internship but a formal program customized to help trainees realize their goals.

TO APPLY: Details can be found at www.metpronews.com. Applications must be postmarked by Jan. 31, 2014, for the 2014-15 class.
