Bonnie Taing Contributes to Relief Efforts in New Orleans

  

Senior Political Science and Business major, Bonny Taing spent seven weeks this past summer as an AmeriCorps volunteer in New Orleans,LA teaching and rebuilding the community post the Hurricane Katrina disaster.   As a YMCA camp counselor of a small Baptist Parish, Taing taught mostly middle school students and helped them prepare for the LEAP examinations; a state wide standardized test.  When not teaching, Taing  would be rebuilding homes that were affected by the hurricane; touching the lives of each person she encountered.  Her equal passion for public policy and direct service is illuminated not only in her work this past summer but also in her extracurricular activities here at LMU.
