The history department in University Hall offers wonderful facilities, including a patio, world war studies room, large conference room (the Turhollow Conference Room) and wall decorations that reflect the fields of interest of faculty members. Each year the history department organizes an awards convocation that honors students who have excelled in scholarship and service. To encourage excellence in the writing of history papers, the history department organizes an annual writing awards contest. Each annual awards convocation has a cultural or historical theme, such as Finland’s popular culture, medieval tournaments, Lincoln and the Civil War, Greek dances, and the Manila Galleons (California and the Philippines). The history department has a large number of TAs who help faculty members to complete their research projects and PowerPoint presentations. There is a TA office available that includes three computers, scanners, and printers. There is a spacious history computer lab with ten work stations and a network printer. The Turhollow conference room includes a motorized screen, a Cambridge sound system, and a ceiling projector. They are connected through a control panel to a video-player, cable television signal and a work station that includes a DVD player and a wireless keyboard. An elegant armoire has been installed to hide the computer equipment when not in use.
