Robin Miskolcze, associate professor, University of Nebraska, Ph.D.
Robin Miskolcze teaches courses in American Romanticism, American Realism and Naturalism, 19th-Century American women writers and early American culture. Her book, Women and Children First: 19th-Century Sea Narratives and American Identity (2008) examines images of women at sea as passengers, cross-dressed sailors and slaves within antebellum narratives ranging from novels and sermons to newspaper accounts and lithographs. She has also published her research in journals such as Nineteenth-Century Contexts, Prose Studies, Papers on Language and Literature and her creative non-fiction has appeared in Living Forge. Her current research interests include 19th- century representations of homelessness, captivity narratives, Melville and theories of work, and Uncle Tom’s Cabin at the turn of the twentieth century.
