Fall 2011 Survey in Bioethics for

Healthcare and Legal Professionals

The Survey in Bioethics for Healthcare and Legal Professionals is designed especially for physicians, nurses, chaplains, hospital administrators, social workers and attorneys who either have an interest in or who are already involved in the field of bioethics. The course is of particular benefit to new members of bioethics committees. It will survey the major developments in bioethics and focus on some of the most important ethical, legal and medical issues associated with clinical decision-making. Lectures and group discussion of case studies are used to create a highly interactive learning environment.

COURSE FACULTY 


JAMES J. WALTER, PhD, holds the Austin & Ann O’Malley Chair in Bioethics in The Bioethics Institute at Loyola Marymount University. He received his PhD from the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium) and then completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Clinical Bioethics at Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola Universiy of Chicago. Currently, he serves as a clinical bioethicist at the three medical centers and a hospice facility belonging to the Citrus Valley Health Partners in Covina, CA (Citrus Valley Medical Center, Queen of the Valley Medical Center, Foothill Presbyterian Hospital, and Citrus Valley Hospice).
