Mission

The Bioethics Institute's mission is to develop and provide educational programs, research projects, clinical consultation and policy development services in the multidisciplinary field of bioethics. It draws principally, but not exclusively, upon the intellectual heritage of the Roman Catholic theological and philosophical tradition in the study of contemporary issues in bioethics.  Other religious and secular traditions will be welcomed and placed in dialogue with the Catholic focus.

Through the Master of Arts program, public lectures, and short courses for healthcare professionals, The Bioethics Institute serves three principal constituencies in the Los Angeles area: the academic community of Loyola Marymount University; healthcare professionals in the Los Angeles area; and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
